MISSION STATEMENT
The vision of Woodland Community Church is to actively love others, to reach them for Christ, and to train believers in Christian maturity.
HISTORY
Woodland Community Church (WCC) was organized in 1972 through the united efforts of Youth Gospel Crusade, Camp Forest Springs, and interested local citizens. Rev. Richard Neale, president of Youth Gospel Crusade, acted as pastor until 1975 when the church was ready to call a full-time pastor. WCC has had a succession of five full-time pastors. Our last pastor, A. Grant Brown, began ministering here in September of 1995 and has recently resigned at the end of August 2008.
PROPERTIES
The Woodland Community Church building, dedicated in 1981, is situated on a picturesque 16-acre site. The church sanctuary seats 176 people and serves as an adult Sunday School classroom. On the same level as the sanctuary are a small classroom, the pastor’s office, a secretarial office, as well as the main entrance and foyer. The lower level consists of six classrooms and a fellowship hall that accommodates 120 at a sit down meal. The fellowship hall also serves as a Truth Seekers Kids Club circle and is converted into two adult Sunday School classes on Sunday morning. The church owns the Genesis Youth Center located on Main Street of Rib Lake. It houses the Youth Pastor’s office, game room, gymnasium, upper level quiet room/meeting room, and kitchen.
Woodland Community Church currently has a building program in process to expand the main church building. In God’s timing, we are planning for a larger sanctuary, kitchen, foyer, and enlarging the downstairs classrooms.
CONGREGATION
Woodland Community Church currently has 61 members as of January 1, 2008. About 40% (23) of the membership is missionary staff of Camp Forest Springs, which is a year round, non-denominational Christian camp and retreat center located four miles east of the church. Our congregation is drawn from a radius of approximately 10–15 miles. The largest percentage of those who attend are from the village of Rib Lake, located seven miles from the church. The town of Westboro (population 176) and the village of Rib Lake (population 878) comprise the heart of the community, which WCC serves. We serve a rural setting, but the congregation consists of many trained, skilled individuals with college degrees.
MINISTRIES
The Sunday morning service average attendance for 2007 was 125 adults and children. Sunday School attendance averaged 60 adults and children. Staff accounts for 68.21% of our budget, Facilities (which includes the church & GYC in Rib Lake) 14%, Missions 13.37%, and Ministry 4.61%, which includes Truth Seekers Kids Club, Sunday school, and other church programs.
CHILDREN
Woodland Community Church maintains a strong Truth Seekers Kids Club program which draws approximately 40-50 boys and girls each week. Over half of the children attending are from families who do not attend WCC. On Tuesday mornings, the Bible Bear Cubs program draws an average of 10 children this year. The Genesis Youth Center (GYC) in Rib Lake is run by our full-time youth pastor, Todd Henderson, and is an extended ministry of WCC. The GYC ministers to 12 - 15 senior high youth on Sunday nights and 8 - 12 middle school youth on Wednesday nights. About 30% are not from WCC. In addition, the GYC is open after school four afternoons per week and Friday nights 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. Friday night averages approximately 25 kids. We hold a Vacation Bible School each summer for a week, which usually averages between 40 –50 children.
ADULTS
There are active men’s and women’s ministries. Currently there are five home Bible studies being held each week. We have a men’s Bible study on Thursday mornings, two ladies’ Bible studies, a Bible basics study on Wednesday night, and a parenting study every other week. We conduct a monthly ministry known as T.I.M.E to the residents of the Golden Living Center in Rib Lake.
MISSIONS
Monthly, we support ten individual missionaries and two mission organizations. We also maintain a “special projects” missions fund.
