AREA CHURCHES
The Westboro and Rib Lake communities have Catholic, Lutheran, and Methodist churches as well as Woodland Community Church.

SHOPPING AND SERVICES
Westboro has limited services.  Rib Lake (population 878), six miles east, has a grocery store, lumber and hardware stores, and banks.  The town also has two gas stations, auto body and repair shops, restaurants, and motels.  Medford (population 4300), located 16 miles south, has several fast food restaurants, larger grocery store, Wal-Mart & Kmart, many specialty shops, car dealerships, furniture stores, and many industries. Marshfield and Wausau, both about 60 miles from Westboro, offer greater shopping opportunities with large department stores and mall shopping.

HEALTH CARE
Routine medical and dental care is available in Rib Lake and Medford.  The nationally acclaimed Marshfield Clinic and Research Center and St. Joseph’s Hospital are located in Marshfield.  The Aspirus Wausau Hospital, affiliated with the University of Wisconsin, is located in Wausau.  Memorial Health Center, affiliated with the Aspirus Hospital is located in Medford.  The Rib Lake Clinic is also a part of the Aspirus Network.  Emergency ambulance services are available from Rib Lake.

CLIMATE
Our climate is typical of the northwoods.  The temperature seldom goes above 90 degrees in the summer, usually staying between 70 and 85 degrees.  Although there may be some humid days, the evenings and nights are usually very comfortable.  The countryside is beautiful during all four seasons.  We enjoy luxuriant summer foliage, brilliant fall colors, and ample snow. Spring begins in April; frost often arrives in September, along with snow in November, which usually remains on the ground until mid-March. January and February daytime temperatures seldom go above freezing and nighttime temperatures often drop below zero.

SCHOOLS
The Rib Lake School District serves both the Westboro and Rib Lake communities.  The elementary school (new in 2000), the middle school (6-8 grades), and the high school are located in Rib Lake.  A rural virtual academy is available through the Medford school district for grades K-8.  There are also some home schooling families within the church body. The Northcentral Technical College, a branch of the Wausau Campus, is located in Medford.  The University of Wisconsin has a branch campus in Wausau. 

RECREATION
The area offers many types of northwoods recreational opportunities.  There are numerous trails throughout for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. Many area lakes and streams lend themselves to boating, swimming, and fishing.  Other seasonal activities may include downhill skiing, ice-skating, and various types of hunting.

AIR TRAVEL
There is a non-commercial airport in Medford.  Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) is located 75 miles south of the area.
